According to Dr. Nguyen Tan Van from the Department of Odonto-Stomatology of E Hospital, to date, 35 children have registered for screening to participate in the programme.
Most of the children come from Cao Bang and Yen Bai provinces. They have various birth defects such as cleft lip, palate and other facial deformities.
During the health screening session for the programme, doctors found a rare case, who is a 14-month child from Na Doa commune, Bao Lac district, Cao Bang province. The child is diagnosed with Tessier 30 facial cleft - a rare anomaly, which is limited to a defect in the soft tissue of the lower lip.
Dr Van acknowledged that this is the first time he has encountered such a rare anomaly during his 20-year working career.
The programme is the third of its kind to be implemented at E Hospital, to provide charity treatment for child patients with cleft lip, palate and other facial deformities.
It aims to bring new smiles and hopes to disadvantaged children, and help them overcome difficulties caused by the cleft condition, thus generating confidence in daily life.
