On March 18, Da Nang Hospital inaugurated a catheterisation laboratory with a state-of-the-art Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) system, the Azurion 7, donated by the Heart for Heart Foundation. This event also honoured the exceptional contributions of Professor Erich Johann Lejeune and Dr Irène Lejeune to the city’s healthcare sector.
Founded by the Lejeunes, the Germany-based non-governmental organisation “Heart for Heart” has been a longstanding supporter of Da Nang’s healthcare system. Since 2006, the organisation has provided modern medical equipment worth millions of euros to Da Nang Hospital.
Additionally, they have facilitated specialised training by sending leading German cardiologists to transfer congenital heart disease intervention techniques, benefiting residents of Da Nang and the central highlands region.
As of 2024, Da Nang Hospital has conducted free congenital heart disease screenings for over 350,000 children, identifying nearly 3,000 cases early. The hospital maintains regular screening programmes in remote areas and local communities within Da Nang and neighbouring provinces.
In 2024, the Lejeunes furthered their support by donating a new DSA Azurion 7 system from Philips, one of the most advanced cardiovascular intervention systems in Vietnam, valued at 1 million EUR (approximately 27 billion VND).
At the event, the Vice Chairman of Da Nang People’s Committee, Le Quang Nam, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Lejeunes, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the city’s healthcare sector. Their noble deeds have left a profound impact, symbolising compassion and community support.
