The ceremony was attended by Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Le Thanh Hai; Chairman of the City’s People’s Committee, Le Hoang Quan; and Secretary of the Quang Ngai provincial Party Committee, Vo Van Thuong, as well as family members of the late PM Pham Van Dong and representatives from ministries and central agencies.
The 12-kilometre road has 12 lanes, connecting Nguyen Thai Son crossroads, Go Vap district to the Linh Xuan intersection, Thu Duc district.
Pham Van Dong Road is part of the important ring road running through Tan Binh, Go Vap, Binh Thanh and Thu Duc districts. It connects the city centre with satellite urban areas and neighbouring provinces such as Binh Duong and Dong Nai.
It is expected to help reduce traffic, road accidents, and pollution on severely congested roads like Xo Viet Nghe Tinh, Dinh Bo Linh, Bach Dang, Phan Dang Luu, and Phan Van Tri.
The ring road, measuring a total 13.6km, starts at the airport in Tan Binh District and will end in Thu Duc District at National Highway 1. The project, requiring a total investment of US$340 million, opened its first stage to traffic in September, 2013.
The late PM Pham Van Dong is considered an outstanding student of President Ho Chi Minh, as well as a prestigious leader of the Vietnam Communist Party and the revolution.
He was also an excellent political theorist with a strategic vision and the ability to think dynamically who always stayed close to the people. He devoted his life to the national revolutionary cause for independence, freedom and happiness.
