During this phase, more than 185,000 residents from vulnerable groups across the province are expected to receive periodic health check-ups, accounting for approximately 37% of Lai Chau’s population. Eligible beneficiaries include people with meritorious service, elderly citizens, social welfare recipients, persons with disabilities, poor households and near-poor households.

The health examinations are being conducted at 68 locations throughout the province, including 10 fixed examination sites located at Lai Chau Provincial General Hospital, the Provincial Centre for Disease Control, and regional general hospitals that previously operated at district level. In addition, 58 mobile examination sites have been established at commune health stations and satellite health points to facilitate access to healthcare services for local residents. The fixed examination sites began operations on June 2, while the mobile sites will commence services from June 10.

Participants in this round of periodic health examinations will receive general clinical assessments, health consultations and screening for several non-communicable diseases, including hypertension and diabetes. They will also undergo a number of basic diagnostic tests such as complete blood counts, blood biochemistry tests, urinalysis and X-ray examinations.

To implement the programme, Lai Chau’s health sector has deployed experienced doctors, nurses and technicians from hospitals, the Centre for Disease Control and local health stations to participate in the examinations. Medical equipment required for diagnostic testing and screening has also been mobilised. Examination schedules have been arranged according to priority groups in order to prevent overcrowding and ensure convenience for residents.

According to the Lai Chau Department of Health, periodic health examinations and free screening programmes not only help assess health conditions and detect disease risks at an early stage for appropriate consultation, treatment or referral, but also contribute to raising public awareness of personal and family healthcare and disease prevention.

Following the first phase, Lai Chau will continue implementing additional rounds of examinations for the remaining eligible groups in accordance with regulations, including people with chronic illnesses, residents in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, those living in particularly disadvantaged regions, children in educational institutions, school students, workers and other target groups.
