All regions across the country were filled with a joyful atmosphere of New Year as all activities resumed following the pandemic.
In Hanoi, the winter’s cold air was warmed by the crowds flocking to the city centre from December 31, 2022. People gathered in the Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square (on the pedestrian space beside Hoan Kiem Lake) and August Revolution Square (in front of the Hanoi Opera House), where the large-scale Countdown Festivals were held. The festival featured the participation of various famous artists such as My Linh, Thu Minh, JustaTee, Phuong Ly and the world-famous DJs Hyo Yeon and Quintino.
Following the Countdown Festivals, the Vietnam International Half Marathon 2023 will take place on January 1, 2023, with the participation of 5,000 athletes from Vietnam and around the world. The participants will compete in three distances, 5km, 10km and 21km. The starting and ending points of the race were arranged at the Hoan Kiem lakeside area.
Like Hanoi, many central streets in Ho Chi Minh City were full of the bustling New Year atmosphere. A series of shops and shopping centres were decorated with eye-catching images of New Year greetings.
On December 31, 2022, the number of visitors to the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens increased by 2-3 times compared to normal days. The number of citizens and visitors to Dam Sen Cultural Park and the Suoi Tien relic site also raised sharply.

Ho Chi Minh City citizens went to the streets to welcome the new year 2023, by joining the Countdown Festivals at President Ho Chi Minh Monument Park on Nguyen Hue Street, the beginning of Le Duan Street and on the Nguyen Hue pedestrian street.

The Countdown Festivals attracted a large number of audiences. The firework displays were held in two areas including the beginning of the Saigon River tunnel (Thu Duc City) and Dam Sen Cultural Park.
The streets around the central city of Da Nang were crowded on the last day of the year.
People had the chance to enjoy the performances of lights and music, as well as the countdown to say goodbye to the old year and enjoy spectacular fireworks displays.
Despite cold weather, people flocked to the Opera House in the northern portal city of Hai Phong, where an art programme was held to celebrate the New Year 2023.

In Phu Quoc city, an art programme themed "New Year Countdown 2023" was held at Anh Duong Square, An Thoi Ward. It was a colourful art party with inspirational stories about a year of impressive recovery in Vietnam, following the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thousands of locals and visitors flocked to an art programme held at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square in Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province, to celebrate the New Year 2023. At the event, the 2023 National Tourism Year themed “Binh Thuan – Green Convergence” was officially announced. Following the art performances and countdown, visitors witnessed a beautiful fireworks display.
