Patriot Nguyen Dinh Chieu's 190th birthday celebrated

Nhan Dan – A ceremony to celebrate 190th birthday of patriotic poet Nguyen Dinh Chieu (1822- 2012) was held on July 1 in Ba Tri district, Ben Tre province, where the poet passed away in 1888.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Truong Van Nghia urged officers, Party members, teachers and people in the locality to study and follow poetNguyen Dinh Chieu's example and contribute more to improving the culture in their communities.

A reading of Nguyen Dinh Chieu’s poems was held the same day in Long An province, featuring songs and dances praising the life and career of the patriot. The event, organised by the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, aimed to foster the public's patriotic spirit and nurture national pride.

Nguyen Dinh Chieu was born to a Confucian family on July 1, 1822 in Tan Thoi village, Binh Duong district, Gia Dinh province (now Ho Chi Minh City). He was a great poet who used the power of the pen to fight against the French invaders, as well as a prominent Confucian teacher and physician who supported the poor.
