The event was attended by Party Central Committee Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, along with leaders from the Ministry of Health, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, the Viet Nam Fatherland Front, representatives of religious organisations and international organisations, and families of organ donors.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan affirmed that in the history of modern medicine, organ and tissue transplantation is recognised as one of the greatest achievements of the 20th century.
According to Minister Dao Hong Lan, today’s programme marks the beginning of a new journey of compassion. She said that May 20 each year would not merely be a date on the calendar but a day to reflect on the value of life. She therefore called on all healthcare workers — those who understand the value of life most profoundly — to take the lead in registering as organ donors. She also urged every Vietnamese citizen, through love and compassion, to open their hearts and continue writing miraculous stories of revival.
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra shared that organ and tissue donors had written profoundly moving stories of humanity, compassion, and deep national solidarity. They are ordinary people who, at life’s most critical moments, together with their families, chose to donate part of their bodies to bring new life to many others.
The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that alongside the highly encouraging achievements already made, there remains a very large and growing demand for organ and tissue transplants. This serves as a reminder that every organ donation registration form submitted today could become a lifeline for many people tomorrow.
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra herself signed an organ and tissue donation registration form at the event. She also called on officials, soldiers, youth union members, organisations, businesses, families, and all Vietnamese people to work together to further spread the movement of organ and tissue donation through compassion, sharing, and national solidarity.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed confidence that, with the nation’s longstanding humanitarian tradition, the organ and tissue donation movement would continue to spread widely, contributing to the development of a modern and humane Vietnamese healthcare system dedicated to the happiness and well-being of all people.
