The new branch of the hospital covers 20.7 hectares in Liem Tuyen commune, Thanh Liem district and has an investment of around VND5 trillion (US$235 million).

Nguyen Quoc Anh, Associate Professor, Doctor and Director of Bach Mai Hospital, said that the expansion of the hospital will be able to accommodate 1,000 inpatients and is scheduled to begin construction in the second quarter of 2014 and complete in 2016.

The facilities will also include a convalescent home of 500 beds and a medical college.

Upon its completion, the new hospital will be one of the most modern hospitals in Vietnam and equal to other hospitals in the region in the fields of examination, treatment and the application of high technology.

It is also expected to meet the examination and treatment demands of local people and help ease overloading in the current Bach Mai hospital and other central hospitals.

Ha Nam has been selected to build the hospital as it is located in the centre of provinces in the north and lies on the North-South route, which will facilitate the transport of patients from the north and central region to the hospital.
