Former Vietnamese Youth Volunteers celebrate Dien Bien Phu Victory

The Association of Former Vietnamese Youth Volunteers held a meeting in Dien Bien Phu City on March 21 to express gratitude to its members as a part of the activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – 2024).

The event was attended by Truong Hoa Binh, former Politburo member, former permanent Deputy Prime Minister; the leaders of the Association of Former Vietnamese Youth Volunteers; Representatives of central departments and branches; Le Thanh Do, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien Province; and more than 200 officials and members of the Association of Former Vietnamese Youth Volunteers throughout the country.

Reviewing the historical traditions of Vietnam's youth volunteers, Vu Trong Kim, Chairman of the Association of Former Vietnamese Youth Volunteers, recalled the historical milestones of youth volunteers, with a special emphasis on events in December 1953, when the plan to open the Dien Bien Phu Campaign was approved; the youth volunteer group named Doan XP was mobilised with 18,200 young volunteers.

Sending thanks to the generations of former youth volunteers who contributed to the Dien Bien Phu Victory and building and developing Dien Bien Province, Vu A Bang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien Province, reported on the socio-economic development results of Dien Bien in recent times.

On this occasion, the Association of Former Vietnamese Youth Volunteers presented 55 medals to outstanding delegates and officials of the Association of Former Vietnamese Youth Volunteers. Former Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, representing a number of donors, presented 200 million VND to the Fund For The Poor and the Association of Former Youth Volunteers of Dien Bien Province.

Earlier, Truong Hoa Binh and all members of the Association of Former Vietnamese Youth Volunteers offered incense to pay their respects to the heroic martyrs at the A1 National Martyrs Cemetery.
