President Ho Chi Minh was the founder of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam, the first people’s democratic state in Southeast Asia. With the stature of an outstanding revolutionist, a great thinker and a man of culture, President Ho Chi Minh led the Vietnamese nation to win independence and laid the foundations for a modern state.

The book “Ho Chi Minh –Pictorial Biography”, comprising 324 pages divided into seven main sections, sketches the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh, highlighting his significant contributions throughout the revolutionary journey.

Through each page, readers can image the whole of President Ho Chi Minh’s vibrant and rich revolutionary life: departing from Nha Rong Wharf to find a way to save the country; travelling to many countries and continents to broaden his outlook on the world; becoming the first Vietnamese communist and actively contributing to the international communist movement; organising the conference founding the Communist Party of Viet Nam in 1930; enduring years of imprisonment and hardship for the sake of the nation; returning to the homeland to lead the Vietnamese revolution and launching the General Uprising in August 1945, establishing the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam; leading the young revolutionary government into the long-term resistance war against the French, won the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu in 1954; and continuing to lead the entire people and army in the resistance war against the US, aiming for national reunification.

Each page introduced a small story, a piece of President Ho Chi Minh’s life, forming a relatively complete portrait of the leader of the Vietnamese nation in the modern time.

In addition, at the end of each section there is a concise summary of the world situation corresponding to each stage of Uncle Ho’s life and career. This helps readers more understand the international context at the times and gain a clearer understanding of Uncle Ho’s journey from Sen village to the Presidential Palace.

The book “Ho Chi Minh – Pictorial Biography” tells the story not only through words but also through images, with nearly 700 photos, drawings, images of artefacts and monuments, along with maps and charts. Many of the portraits and valuable documents in the book have been collected by Dong A Culture Joint Stock Company from the French Overseas Archives Centre in Aix en Provence (ANOM), which preserves a massive collection of some 8,000 pages about President Ho Chi Minh, as well as from many museums in Viet Nam. Through the language of images, the life and legacy of President Ho Chi Minh are depicted vividly, making them accessible to a large number of readers.

Also on this occasion, Dong A Books will introduce the S100 special edition “Ho Chi Minh – Pictorial Biography” on August 31, at the area of the Publishing, Printing and Distribution Exhibition, within the framework of the Exhibition of National Achievements on the 80th anniversary of National Day.

If the book “Vietnamese History in Pictures”, launched in September 2024, was an important step in Dong A’s journey of creating illustrated encyclopaedic works, “Ho Chi Minh – Pictorial Biography” continues to be a special project. The book is not only a historical-documentary work, but also a vivid form of communication and education, helping readers, especially the younger generation – come closer to Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and style.
