The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion has called on people to donate blood from now until the end of Lunar New Year 2024.

Tran Ngoc Que, Director of the National Blood Centre under the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, said that the centre needs to receive about 40,000-42,000 units of blood each month.

Thus, it needs at least 80,000 units of blood in the first two months of 2024 to provide for more than 180 medical facilities in 31 provinces and cities, Que noted. However, the current results are lower than the demand.

The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion is making every effort to hold more blood donation events before Tet. It expects to receive 2,200 units of blood from Can Tho City and the provinces of Hau Giang, An Giang, and Dong Thap from January 30 to February 5.

The shortage is due to the severe cold in many places in recent days, thus many blood donation sites did not achieve their expected results.

A blood shortage due to the decrease in the number of blood donors in recent days is also reported in Ho Chi Minh City Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital, which provides blood to more than 150 hospitals in the city and southwestern provinces.
