On July 29, the VAST Party Committee held its 9th Congress for the 2025–2030 tenure. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung attended and delivered a speech at the event.
In his opening remarks, Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh, President of VAST, emphasised that the theme of the 9th Congress is: “Building a clean and comprehensively strong Party Committee; enhancing the quality of scientific research and technological development in close association with the training of high-quality human resources.”
During the past tenure, the VAST Party Committee focused its collective intellect on formulating and issuing seven important resolutions and directives aimed at strengthening the Party’s leadership in carrying out political tasks. It also reviewed and summarised five resolutions issued by the previous Party Committee.
Twelve out of thirteen key targets were achieved or exceeded, successfully fulfilling the core tasks set out in the Resolution of the 2020–2025 Party Congress. Over the past five years, VAST has published more than 12,000 scientific works, including 8,400 international publications, up by 73% compared to the previous term.

The academy outlined six specific targets for fulfilling its political tasks for the 2025 – 2030 tenure. These include: making significant breakthroughs in the quality of basic research; striving to increase the number of scientific publications in prestigious international journals by over 50% compared to the 2020–2025 term; fully mastering at least 30 advanced, core, and strategic technologies in the fields of new materials manufacturing, biotechnology, information technology, marine technology, and space technology; increasing the number of intellectual property rights by 50% compared to the previous tenure; maintaining existing strong research groups and establishing at least 20 additional strong research groups in key basic research fields; ensuring that undergraduate and postgraduate training meets international standards; and aiming for 9 out of 12 journals published by the academy to be indexed in the Web of Science or Scopus databases.
Presentations at the congress highlighted experiences in applying technology in practice, proposed solutions to boost scientific research, expand research directions, develop a strong team of scientists, and link research activities with real-world socio-economic needs.
The congress also elected a delegation to attend the 1st Congress of the Government’s Party Committee for the 2025–2030 tenure.
In his directive speech at the congress, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung praised the strong leadership of the VAST Party Committee, as well as the unity, dedication, and tireless efforts of all staff members, Party members, public officials, civil servants, and workers of the academy.

To further advance this pioneering role, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung requested that during the 2025–2030 tenure, the Party Committee focus on strengthening Party building work, improving leadership capacity and combativeness, enhancing scientific and technological research capacity, investing in fundamental research, and expanding new research directions in line with global technological trends.
The Deputy Prime Minister also stressed the need for VAST to renew its approach to meet the emerging demands of the Party and the State, establish strong research teams, and invest in advanced infrastructure.
