Viet Nam Film Institute organises film screenings to mark 14th National Party Congress

Four feature films and a selection of well-known animated films from Vietnamese cinema are being screened free of charge at Ngoc Khanh Cinema (523 Kim Ma Street, Ha Noi) from January 14 to 17. The event is organised by the Viet Nam Film Institute to celebrate the 14th National Party Congress.

According to Le Thi Ha, Director of the Viet Nam Film Institute, this film screening programme is one of the institute’s regular activities held on major national anniversaries each year, carrying profound political and cultural significance.

The films selected for these occasions are representative revolutionary cinematic works that vividly and authentically recreate the arduous and heroic struggles of the Vietnamese people in the cause of national liberation, national reunification, and the defence of the socialist Fatherland.

Audiences coming to the cinema will have the opportunity to enjoy classic films as well as titles that have recently attracted public attention in Vietnamese cinema, presented on the big screen with a modern sound system. According to the schedule, the feature film Den hen lai len (When the Date Comes Again) — produced by the Viet Nam Feature Film Studio in 1974, directed by Tran Vu, winner of the Golden Lotus Award at the third Viet Nam Film Festival — will open the film screenings celebrating the 14th National Party Congress at 9:00 a.m. on January 14.

The film Sao thang Tam (The August Star) — produced by Feature Film Studio I in 1976, directed by Tran Dac and Duc Hoan, winner of the Golden Lotus Award at the fourth Viet Nam Film Festival — will be screened at 7:30 p.m. on January 15. Furthermore, the film Vi tuyen 17 ngay va dem (17th Parallel: Days and Nights) — produced by the Viet Nam Feature Film Studio in 1972, directed by People’s Artist Hai Ninh, winner of the Silver Lotus Award at the second Viet Nam Film Festival — will be shown at the same time on January 16.

During this screening programme, the Viet Nam Film Institute will also introduce a selection of well-known animated films beloved by generations of young audiences, including Dang doi thang cao (The Fox’s Comeuppance), Con sao biet noi (The Talking Myna Bird), Giai dieu (Melody), Sang (Light), Xe dap (Bicycle), and Su tich cai nha san (The Legend of the Stilt House), to be screened at 10:00 a.m. on January 17.

At 7:30 p.m. the same day, the institute will screen the film Dia dao – Mat troi trong bong toi (The Tunnel: Sun in the Dark) — produced by HKFilm in 2025, directed by Bui Thac Chuyen, winner of the Silver Lotus Award at the 24th Viet Nam Film Festival. The film previously set a box-office record in 2025 during celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.
