At the 60th Golden Bell Awards held in Taiwan (China), on the evening of October 18, Vietnamese actor Lien Binh Phat was officially awarded the prize for Best Leading Actor for his role as Doctor Pham Van Ninh in the film “The Outlaw Doctor”.
This is the first time a Vietnamese actor has ever been nominated for and won a Golden Bell Award.
The film “The Outlaw Doctor” tells the story of Pham Van Ninh, a talented Vietnamese doctor working in Taiwan (China), and Chinese doctor Cheng Yuanping, played by famous actress Chang Chun Ning. The series, which aired on Viet Nam’s K+ channel in March, recorded high viewership ratings.
Lien Binh Phat became famous through the renowned film “Song Lang” by director Leon Quang Le, which depicted a fateful meeting between a performer of southern Vietnamese opera and a debt collector in a period when traditional art forms were facing decline.
He has since been recognised as one of the most distinctive and dynamic faces of Vietnamese cinema. Following “Song Lang”, he was cast in a range of television and film projects, including “Butterfly House”, “Descendants of the Sun”, “No Way Out”, and so on.
Lien Binh Phat has also participated in various entertainment and reality television shows, most notably “Brother overcoming thousands of challenges”, where he showcased his vocal and dance talents. He now runs his own YouTube channel, sharing covers of his favourite songs.
The year 2025 marks a milestone in Lien Binh Phat’s career after his success in “Brother overcoming thousands of challenges”. He has not only received love and won an award for “The Outlaw Doctor” but will also made his big-screen return with two upcoming films — “Quan Ky Nam” and “Money Trap” — which are scheduled for release in November.
“Quan Ky Nam” is a film in which Lien Binh Phat reunites with the director Leon Quang Le, with the participation of veteran actress Do Thi Hai Yen. The film is set in Ho Chi Minh City in the 1980s. It was screened at many major film festivals such as Busan, Toronto, and received many compliments from audiences as well as international critics.
