Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong and Dr Jonas Egebart, Director General of the Danish Health Authority, met in Ha Noi on June 23 to discuss priorities in primary healthcare and non-communicable disease management. The roundtable also aimed to advance ambitions for expanding bilateral cooperation in the health sector, particularly amid Viet Nam’s ongoing reform agenda.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr Jonas Egebart emphasised: “Viet Nam is undergoing a transformation of its public administration system, including in the health sector. We are ready to share with Viet Nam the policy experiences we have gathered through this process. Strengthening primary healthcare and investing in preventive medicine not only brings economic benefits but also helps build a healthier and more resilient population.”
Viet Nam is reshaping its primary healthcare system to better serve the population amid a rapidly ageing demographic, increasingly complex disease burdens, and rising public expectations driven by economic growth.
Phase 3 of the cooperation programme builds on the outcomes and joint efforts since 2016, when the health partnership between Viet Nam and Denmark was officially established. This phase focuses on consolidating the policy framework, supporting the implementation of integrated care models, and enhancing local capacity in the prevention, detection, and management of non-communicable diseases.
