Sukulaya Uahwatanasakul, Senior Vice President, Group Treasury, Central Retail Corporation, said: “We are very pleased to sign an MoU for the first time with reputable partners such as the National Payment Corporation of Viet Nam (NAPAS) and the Viet Nam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) to connect cross-border payment systems through VietQRGlobal. We expect that this cooperation will help promote cross-border QR payment solutions, thereby gradually stimulating trade and tourism and contributing to the economic development of the two countries.”
Under the agreement, the parties will coordinate to deploy cross-border QR payment solutions across all supermarkets and retail outlets under Central Retail in Thailand, thereby enhancing recognition and encouraging adoption of the service.
Once the service is launched, Vietnamese tourists will be able to use domestic banking apps or e-wallets to scan QR codes to pay for purchases, bypassing the need for cash or currency exchange, at more than 3,000 stores in Central Retail’s network across 63 provinces and cities in Thailand, including well-known brands such as Central, Robinson, Tops, Tops Daily, Supersports, and Topcare.
Previously, in October 2025, NAPAS and Central Retail Viet Nam (CRV) successfully deployed VietQRPay and VietQRGlobal payment solutions across CRV’s entire GO!, Tops Market, and go! hypermarket system in Viet Nam.
Nguyen Hoang Long, Deputy General Director of NAPAS, said: “We believe that expanding cross-border QR payment connectivity will help make cashless payment a habit in daily transactions, while also supporting trade and tourism and strengthening economic connectivity between the two countries.”
Tran Cong Quynh Lan, Deputy General Director of VietinBank, said that with its commitment to promoting modern digital payment solutions, VietinBank believes this cooperation agreement will mark a new milestone in strengthening cashless payment connectivity between Viet Nam and Thailand, bringing a convenient and safe experience to citizens and visitors in the two countries.
Through the agreement, VietinBank, NAPAS, and Central Retail will coordinate to develop cross-border QR payments, while also launching promotional campaigns, thereby contributing to the promotion of trade and tourism between the two countries.
