Over 100 films to compete at HANIFF 2014

Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Department of Cinema has announced that 130 films from 33 countries and territories will compete at third Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF) 2014.

The films, selected from 411 sent to HANIFF 2014, will compete in various categories including the best documentary, the best feature film, the best short film, the best director for feature film, the best young director for short film, the best leading actor, the best leading actress, the Netpac Prize, the special award of the jury for the best film and for short film.

Vietnam will enter films, including Dap Canh Giua Khong Trung (Flapping from the middle of nowhere), Nhung Dua Con Cua Lang (The children of the village), Anh Sang Giua Tang Khong (Light in the air), My Chau – Trong Thuy, Bu Nhin Rom (Straw man), Tro Chuyen Voi Ban Than (Talking to my best friend), Tron Chay (Escape) and Nguoi Viet Thu Thue Cuoi Cung O Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh (The last public letter writer in Ho Chi Minh City).

Themed ‘Cinema – Integration and Sustainable Development’, this year’s festival is scheduled to be held in Hanoi from November 23-27. Apart from screenings, HANIFF plans include a camp for young talents and an exhibition on advertising contexts of films and famous destinations in Vietnam.

The event aims to honour outstanding films of high artistic value and encourage new talents of Vietnamese cinema.
