The project is designed to connect all stakeholders in the rice cycle in Dong Thap Province and the Mekong Delta region with rice traders nationwide, forming a useful platform for rice traders and increasing the added value of rice.
Speaking at a conference on December 19, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan stated that the rice exchange will bring substantive benefits while enhancing the value of the rice sector.
The launch of the project is an important milestone recognising the participation of over 100 enterprises in the research of the exchange model and trial operation in order to improve its functions in the future.
Some of the most notable features of the exchange are providing transparent buying and selling information, supporting quality control, optimising the storage and transport costs and providing financial solutions to ensure secure and compliant transactions.
The project is operated by its investor, Agri Index Company, with advice from the Dong Thap Department of Industry and Trade, and support for business participation network development provided by the Dong Thap Centre for the Promotion of Trade, Tourism and Investment.
It is expected to see the participation of nearly 200 enterprises operating in the field of processing and trading rice and rice by-products.
Following a trial period from December 2022 to May 2023, the exchange is scheduled to formally open in June 2023.
