Da Nang people gather to watch 3D mapping film “The Story of Da Nang”

The large number of locals and tourists gathered along Bach Dang Street, in front of the Da Nang Museum, on April 29, to witness the premiere of “The Story of Da Nang” — a 3D mapping film commemorating the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s national reunification.

Organised for the first time by the Da Nang People's Committee, the event marks a technological and cultural milestone for the city, bringing to life its history and aspirations through advanced visual storytelling.

Using high-powered projection equipment, the film was screened directly onto the façade of the Da Nang Museum at 42 Bach Dang Street, blending vivid imagery with dynamic sound effects to create a striking 3D mapping experience.

The film — the first of its kind to be shown outdoors in Da Nang — offers a narrative that weaves together legends, historical milestones, and the spirit of the city’s people. Highlights include representations of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, the legacy of Lord Nguyen Hoang, the wartime oath, and the Hai Van Pass battle.

Comprising three sections, the film traces the city’s evolution from its ancient roots to its present-day emergence as a vibrant urban hub.

The 3D mapping show is also a technological landmark in Southeast Asia, deploying Panasonic’s PT-RQ50K projector — the same model used at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games opening ceremony and Tokyo Night & Light 2024. This marks the first time such cutting-edge equipment has been used in the region.

With screenings scheduled twice nightly from April 29 to May 1 (19:30–20:30 and 21:00–22:00), the event is expected to become a highlight of the city’s public celebrations.

The organising board hope it will serve as a meaningful tribute to past generations, as well as a unique new attraction promoting Da Nang’s cultural and historical identity to domestic and international visitors.
